Our Team
Moses (Musa) is a Maasai man from Eluwai Village in Monduli District. He has dedicated his life to serving his community, promoting Maasai culture, and providing basic needs to people. Natopiwo Organization is the realization of his life-long dream. He works to form partnerships and design sustainable development initiatives that meet the needs of the community now and envision a more resourced future for all.
In addition, Musa serves as an elected chairperson of Eluwai Village government. He works as a translator, tour program coordinator and guide, and research assistant for international researchers, university courses, and tourists. His family has lived in the community for generations, and he and his wife recently they have 2 Children, one son of 5 years old and a girl of 6 month.
Kiling’ot Lembikasi is the Natopiwo Organization Program Officer. He has worked with Natopiwo since 2017.
As a Maasai man from Loliondo, Kiling’ot knows well the challenges Maasai people face as a result of various pressures.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for Natopiwo. Kiling’ot’s input in program agenda setting, development, and implementation is invaluable.
Rachel Hodapp is an American health social worker and medical anthropologist who has known and worked with Musa in various capacities for over 13 years.
Rachel first met Musa in 2011 through an undergraduate study abroad course; she was an anthropology student, and he was a cultural guide. Rachel returned to Tanzania that 2011 summer, and together, Musa and Rachel conducted an ethnomedical project documenting Maasai medicinal plants. They have remained close friends and colleagues ever since.
Rachel works with Natopiwo to give back to this Maasai community that has given her so much and to endeavor to combat increasing globalized inequity.
The Natopiwo Board of Directors is made up of Tanzanian Maasai Women and men in Monduli District. The board meets quarterly (or as needed) to allocate funds and to make plans for project implementation. Overhead expenses are minimal because all administrators work voluntarily.
