Where we work

Eluwai Village

Monduli Juu Ward

Eluwai is a village in Monduli ward located in Monduli District of Arusha Region. The village of Eluwai has a population of 3,110 Maasai people. Over the past few decades Maasai life in Monduli areas has changed dramatically.

In Eluwai Village, over 85% of the people and their families live below the national poverty line. Many factors influence this poverty including the grabbing of land, the fragmentation of land, the increase in climate change, and severe droughts. For five years the Natopiwo Organization has endeavored to uplift those in Eluwai Village with the most need. Since Natopiwo is an organization that is orchestrated by Maasai people for Maasai people, it works towards and envisions a decolonial reality.

Lendikenya Village

Sepeko ward

Lendikinya is a village in Sepeko ward in Monduli District in Arusha Region. Lendikinya is near Eluwai Village. It has a population of 2,630 Maasai people. In Lendikinya, over 75% of the people and their families live below the poverty line for similar reasons as those seen in the Eluwai Village. Natopiwo supports people of this area primarily through food distribution. Please see the “Natopiwo Projects” page for descriptions of this project.
